Accounting Built Around How Tralee Earns Its Living

Tralee is Kerry’s county town, and its businesses rarely earn the same amount every month. Hotels, pubs, restaurants and guesthouses take a large share of the year’s income between Easter and the Rose of Tralee in August, then carry costs through the winter. We plan VAT, preliminary tax and cash flow around that season, so a strong summer doesn’t turn into an unexpected tax bill.

Tralee is also a hospital town, a college town and the retail centre for North Kerry. We work with doctors and nurses at University Hospital Kerry, traders in the town centre and at Manor West, new companies on the Kerry Technology Park, farmers in the surrounding parishes and the many Tralee families who let a holiday home or a second property. Each comes with its own tax rules, and we explain them in plain English before anything is filed.

Accountants in Tralee: Frequently Asked Questions

Answers from Ger O’Connor FCA to the questions Tralee clients ask most.

Yes. Our office is at Lassaboy, Boolteens, Co. Kerry, V93 DF20, about 15 minutes’ drive from Tralee town on the Castlemaine road. You can meet Ger in person by appointment, or work with us fully online.

The Form 11 return and balance of tax are due by 31 October following the end of the tax year. Filing and paying through ROS usually gives an extension to mid-November. We aim to file well before the deadline so you know your bill early.

You must register once your turnover exceeds, or is likely to exceed, €42,500 for services or €85,000 for goods in any 12-month period. These are the thresholds in place since January 2025. Registering voluntarily can still make sense if you buy a lot of VAT-able supplies, and we can work out which option suits you.

Yes. Short-term letting income is taxable, including bookings made through online platforms. Rent-a-room relief, worth up to €14,000 a year, does not cover short-term guests. We work out what you owe and which expenses reduce it.

Yes. We prepare Form 11 returns for consultants, locums, GPs, pharmacists and therapists with private or non-PAYE income. We also set preliminary tax correctly so there is no shortfall the following year.

Yes. We handle the handover, collect prior-year records and link ourselves as your tax agent on ROS, so nothing falls between the cracks.

No. Most Tralee clients work with us entirely online, sharing documents securely and signing engagement letters digitally. If you prefer to talk things through face to face, Ger can meet you by appointment at our office near Tralee.

Your last tax return or set of accounts if you have them, your PPS or company number, bank statements and any letters from Revenue. If your records are a mess, that is fine: sorting them out is part of what we do.

Yes. We review the letter, check the figures and deal with Revenue on your behalf, whether it is a query, an incorrect assessment or an audit notice. The sooner you send it to us, the more options there are.

We charge fixed monthly fees. Packages start from €149 a month for start-ups, €175 for consultants and €199 for small businesses. Your exact fee is agreed after a free 30-minute business check, based on the work your business actually needs.
